Inland Empire 66ers News Release

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Another quality start from right-hander Tim Sexton wasn't enough for Inland Empire, as the 66ers fell to the Lake Elsinore Storm 6-1 on Saturday night. The game saw both starting pitchers go six innings or more and strike out a combined 16 batters.

Sexton's effort wasn't helped by the 66ers defense which committed three errors early in the game allowing Lake Elsinore to take a 3-1 lead. Sexton (1-3) lasted 6 innings for Inland Empire, giving up just 4 hits and striking out 6. All three runs scored by Lake Elsinore (and 4 of 6 runs total) during Sexton's outing were unearned, giving Sexton the loss without giving up a single earned run.

The other half of the pitching duel was a dominating performance by Storm starting pitcher Wynn Pelzer. Pelzer (5-1) went 6 2/3 innings allowing just 3 hits and striking out a season-high 10 batters. The only run allowed by Pelzer was in the first inning, when Trayvon Robinson drew a leadoff walk, stole a pair of bases, and managed to score on a Steven Caseres single. Caseres had two of Inland Empire's four hits to extend his on-base streak to 16 games.

In addition to the strong start by Sexton, relief pitcher Jake McCarter had a solid performance for the 66ers. McCarter pitched 2 innings in relief for Inland Empire, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 4.

The 66ers will play an afternoon game on Sunday, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Dodger fans are in for another treat, as Jason Schmidt (0-1, 1.80) will make another rehab start at Arrowhead Credit Union Park. The Storm will look to make it three wins in a row against the 66ers by sending right-hander Cory Kluber (4-2, 4.19) to the mound.

Sunday is AT&T Yellow Pages Family Day at the ballpark along with a pre-game Kids Baseball Clinic. Families can get up to 5 Bullpen Box tickets for just $10 and bring the kids to an on-field baseball clinic with 66ers players from 11 a.m. to noon. For tickets or more information, visit the 66ers box office at 280 South E Street in San Bernardino, or call (909) 888-9922.
