Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA) - Lancaster never thought they would be going to extra innings, but they'll leave happy nonetheless. After surrendering an early 6-0 lead, the JetHawks got a game-tying home run in the top of the ninth inning from Chris Minaker to force an extra frame. Run-scoring singles by Minaker and Jason Castro in the top of the tenth inning gave the JetHawks the lead and Jordan Powell closed it out for an 11-9 win.

An offensive barrage in the opening innings had the JetHawks thinking they would cruise. They scored three in the first inning, including two on a single by Minaker. Lancaster then batted around in the second inning as J.B. Shuck's two-run single sparked another three-run frame.

Starter Jeff Icenogle struggled to hold the lead. The left-hander, who had pitched two strong games in his last two starts, was pulled in the third inning after allowing five runs. Chia-Jen Lo kept the JetHawks ahead through the middle innings with three perfect frames of relief, but the Quakes plated four runs in the seventh off Bryan Hallberg to take their first lead.

Minaker continued his heroics in the ninth inning. His home run to open the frame tied the game. He also made a diving stop at first base to prevent a single in the bottom of the ninth inning, stopping the Quakes from moving the potential winning run to third base.

The JetHawks took advantage of a Quakes error opening the tenth inning. Chris Johnson followed it up with a single to move Gaston up a base, then Castro's third RBI hit of the game gave Lancaster the lead. Minaker followed it with an another RBI single to add to the lead.

Minaker drove in four runs. Castro had three RBI hits as well. Nick Moresi fell just a triple shy of the cycle as he doubled, homered, and singled in his first three at bats.

The JetHawks continue their road trip Saturday night in Rancho Cucamonga. David Duncan (0-6) will be on the mound for Lancaster against Quakes' Jayson Miller (1-1). The radio broadcast of the game on Magic 1340 and online at www.JetHawks.com begins with the Pre-Game Show at 6:50 PM. The first pitch of the game will be at 7:05.
