Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA) - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes have watched the JetHawks snatch two wins away from them with late inning heroics. Saturday night at the Epicenter, the Quakes learned their lesson. They scored three runs in the fifth inning to vanquish an early JetHawks lead, then got a strike out with two outs in the bases loaded in the ninth inning to hold on to a 9-5 win.
Lancaster led for much of the early part of the game. Jason Castro's first inning RBI double was followed by a run-scoring single by Koby Clemens to put the JetHawks ahead 2-0. The Quakes tied it in the second, but Lancaster pulled ahead once more in the fourth when five straight JetHawks reached base. Chris Minaker, David Flores, and Nick Moresi all singled, with the latter driving in a run. Craig Corrado then walked to load the bases. J.B. Shuck cashed in with a two run single that put the JetHawks ahead by three.
The lead didn't hold as for the second straight night, a Lancaster starter struggled with his team ahead. David Duncan gave up seven runs and ten hits before leaving in the 5th inning with the JetHawks trailing 7-5.
The JetHawks had a chance to come from behind in the ninth. They loaded the bases with two outs. Koby Clemens, who hit a game-winning homer in the tenth inning against the Quakes earlier this year, worked a 2-2 count while representing the tying run. But he fanned on a fastball to end the game.
The JetHawks continue their road trip Sunday afternoon in Rancho Cucamonga. Shane Wolf (1-2) will be on the mound for Lancaster against Quakes' Alexander Torres (1-2). The radio broadcast of the game on Magic 1340 and online at www.JetHawks.com begins with the Pre-Game Show at 2:00 PM. The first pitch of the game will be at 2:05.
The JetHawks return home for Military Appreciation Weekend, which kicks off Friday, May 22. The weekend will include fireworks, a mini-bat giveaway, a limited edition jersey auction and more.
