Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- Lancaster wasted no time jumping out in front of the Quakes in game one of the four game series, as the JetHawks scored three runs on a bases loaded passed ball and a two-run single by Chris Minaker.

The second inning was no different as Lancaster scored three more runs on a two-run single by JB Shuck and an RBI single by Jason Castro to lead 6-0.

The Quakes answered with a lone run in the 2nd as Hector Estrella singled to center to score Julio Perez, who had doubled to lead off the inning, to cut the lead to 6-1.

Lancaster got another run on the board in the 3rd as Nick Moresi blasted a solo home run to make the score 7-1.

Rancho would not be held down as they scored four times in the bottom of the third on a two-run single by Matt Sweeney and a two-out, two-run double by Efren Navarro to bring the Quakes within two runs, 7-5.

The JetHawks would use a pair of doubles from Chris Johnson and Jason Castro to score another run in the 4th against Quakes starter Esmerlin Jimenez to make the score 8-5.

Lancaster threatened in the 5th against Jimenez with two straight singles knocking the Quakes starter from the game. But Taylor Wilding came in and retired the JetHawks without a run scoring.

Rancho would take the lead in the 7th as Hector Estrella walked to lead off the inning and PJ Phillips doubled to score Estrella to cut the lead to 8-6. On Alberto Rosario's infield single, reliever Bryan Hallberg threw the ball wildly to first allowing Phillips to score from second to bring Rancho to within a run. Carlos Colmenares reached on a sacrifice bunt and Rosario beat the throw to second. Clay Fuller sacrificed the runners to second and third and Jeremy Moore followed with an RBI single to tie the game 8-8. With runners on the corners, Matt Sweeney grounded out to second to score Colmenares to give the Quakes a 9-8 lead.

The Quakes bullpen with Taylor Wilding and Mike Kenney shut down Lancaster after the 4th allowing no hits and striking out four over the next four innings.

Eddie McKiernan came in to close out the game in the 9th, but failed to do so for the second time in a week as he allowed a solo home run to Chris Minaker to tie the game 9-9.

Rancho failed to score in the bottom of the 9th as Jeremy Moore lined out to left with the winning run at second.

Lancaster took the lead in the 10th against reliever Jordon Towns as Jon Gaston led off by reaching on an error and then back to back singles by Chris Johnson and Jason Castro produced the go ahead run. They would add another run on an RBI single by Chris Minaker to grab an 11-9 lead.

The Quakes had a runner on in the 10th, but couldn't get him passed second base.

Rancho will send left hander Jayson Miller to the mound against left hander David Duncan of the JetHawks for game two of the four game series. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
