Omaha Lancers News Release
The Omaha Lancers registered a season-high six goals in the opening period of play en route to a season-high nine total goals in dropping the Sioux Falls Stampede 9-2 Saturday evening at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. With the win, the Lancers are now 2-1 against the Stampede this season and remain atop both the West Division and USHL standings with an overall record of 19-4-1 and 39 standings points.
Omaha tallied early and often in the opening frame beginning with Nick Oddo's goal line battle for his 5th goal of the season just 2:18 into the period. Danny Mattson doubled the Lancers' lead a little over four minutes later on a perfectly executed 3-on-2 with Anthony Hamburg and Ryan Daugherty. Omaha didn't let up and landed a 3-0 lead just 1:24 later when Mathieu Brisson's right point shot grazed off the left post and into the back of the Stampede cage. The Lancers then established a 4-0 lead just prior to the midway point of the period when Matt White cleaned up a Lino Chimienti rebound for his 16th goal of the season. Sioux Falls finally made its way onto the scoreboard 12:48 into the opening frame when Matt Lindblad took a loose puck at the left side of the net and deposited it home for his 6th goal of the season. The Lancers went right back on the offensive though and re-established a four-goal advantage with a minute and a half left in the period when Hamburg's feed from the left wing found Daugherty on a breakaway for his 7th goal of the year. Omaha's memorable first frame came to an end with White's 2nd goal of the period and 17th of the season following a bulls-eye of a wrist shot to the top of the Sioux Falls net. The end of the period also marked the end of Chimienti's night in goal for Sioux Falls after just 11 saves on 17 Omaha shots.
The Lancers offense picked up in the 2nd period right where it had left off in the first as Omaha extended its lead to 7-1 just 3:25 into the middle stanza following Daugherty's redirection of Dennis Brown's point shot on the power play. Omaha then landed an 8-1 advantage when Camden Wojtala's spin around shot from the goal line grazed off a Sioux Falls body and into the back of the net. After Lindblad popped a shorthanded goal late in the second, Omaha grabbed its final goal of the game when Stefan Demopoulos punched in his 5th goal of the season. When all was said and done, the Lancers had registered a season-high nine goals and 22 points. 12 different Lancers tallied at least one point while eight Omaha skaters turned in multi-point efforts in the victory over Sioux Falls.
Jeff Teglia earned his 15th victory of the season in goal following 28 saves on 30 Stampede shots.
The Lancers are back in action this coming Tuesday when they welcome the Tri-City Storm to the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
