Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA â Tomorrow marks the 50-day countdown until the puck drops for the Reading Royals second season at the Sovereign Center. The regular season begins at home on Friday, October 11, 2002 at 7:05 p.m. versus the Wheeling Nailers.
The Royals made numerous pre-season moves to boost their chances of a winning season. The Royals' biggest move was the hiring of Head Coach David Lohrei.
"David is a great addition to our organization. He has had success with every organization he has been with, and we are confident that he will bring that same success to our organization," said Ray Delia, general manager of the Royals. "David and I have established a great rapport and tremendous working relationship. It is a priority that we assemble a team that rewards our fans with hard work and disciplined effort. The fans are tremendously supportive of our team, and the Sovereign Center is a great place to play a hockey game," commented Delia.
Over the next few months, more activity will surround the Royals as they continue to prepare for the drop of the puck. Lohrei and Delia are recruiting talent to improve the overall depth of the program.
"I like the individuals we have signed to the team. We are starting to develop a good blend of skill, toughness and leadership," said Lohrei. "We believe that our team is stronger than the team we finished with last season."
"Our preparations for the 2002-03 season are moving forward nicely, as our ticket support continues to be impressive. And, we are enhancing our promotional calendar to ensure that our fans' experience is second to none," said Delia. "We will also continue to have our players involved with the community because it gives our fans and neighbors an opportunity to solidify a relationship with our team."
The Reading Royals sophomore season faces off October 11 at home vs. legendary coach John Brophy and the Wheeling Nailers. Season tickets, the all new Pepsi select-your-own 18 game half season tickets and group packages are now on sale at the Royals Hockey Headquarters.
