Columbia Inferno News Release

Columbia, SC, August 20, 2002— The Columbia Inferno is proud to announce the renewal of their affiliation with the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks. Also, the Inferno is entering into an official affiliation agreement with the American Hockey League's Manitoba Moose for the 2002-2003 season.

"We are pleased to be able to continue our relationship with the Columbia Inferno," said Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Brian Burke. "We feel that Rick Woodard and Scott White have created an excellent atmosphere for our young players to develop under and we look forward to continuing our working relationship this season."

"We are pleased to join into a partnership with the Columbia Inferno," stated Moose general manger Craig Heisinger. "This type of affiliation is fruitful and successful. The agreement will provide Columbia Inferno players an opportunity to advance from the East Coast to the American Hockey League level, eventually having a chance to progress to the National Hockey League."

Inferno fans will have the opportunity to watch some of Vancouver's and Manitoba's prospects as they prepare for the road ahead. Last year, the Inferno had nine players throughout the course of the season who were sent to Columbia from Manitoba for various reasons.

Coach Scott White said, "Our relationship with the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose has flourished over the past year. The association with Brian Burke and Steve Tambelini, VP Player Personnel for the Canucks is outstanding. This year, under the guidance of new GM Craig Heisinger, the Manitoba Moose will also be officially affiliated with the Inferno. All these gentlemen are quality professionals whom I enjoy working with."

"Our job is to develop their players, and we will continue to do so," added Coach White.

The Inferno will play host to 36 regular season home games at the Carolina Coliseum with opening night on Friday October 11th. Cool off with the hottest game in town. Call (803) 256-7825 and reserve your Inferno tickets today.
