Roanoke, VA- Roanoke Express Head Coach and General Manager Perry Florio, announced today the hiring of Tony MacAulay as the Assistant Coach and Assistant General Manager. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native was a former player in the East Coast Hockey League with the Hampton Roads Admirals and the Maryland based Chesapeake Icebreakers. "Tony's passion for the game, the business, is what we wanted. Tony has the knowledge to be a great coach and the maturity to help us develop young players" said Florio. "His demeanor is very professional and his diverse background will make our organization better. He came very highly recommended from two AHL general managers, Al MacIsaac and Michael Mudd".

MacAulay's background includes coaching at the Tier II Junior "A" level in Canada and at Saint Mary's University in Halifax where he also served in similar roles. Before beginning his pro career, MacAulay played in 174 consecutive games during his tenure at Dalhousie University. "I am ecstatic about the opportunity to work with such a great group of people. Roanoke is a beautiful city, and the organization has shown that they are commited and excited about the upcoming season." added MacAulay.

MacAulay has been on faculty as a teacher and the Head Hockey Coach for DeMatha Catholic High School in suburban Washington, D.C. He guided the team to 4 Maryland State championship titles in 5 seasons, and was honored as the area's coach of the year by the Washington Post. He also served as Head Coach and General Manager of the Washington Junior "B" Capitals for the past 2 seasons. MacAulay adds, "This move is a career for me, not just a job. Roanoke takes their hockey very seriously and I am very excited to work for a great young coach like Perry." Owner Ashby Coleman added, "We will be utilizing Tony's work ethic and business background in our front office as well. He will assist me in strengthening the business part of our organization and he will continue to make us better each day".

MacAulay will be moving to Roanoke with his wife Tina and daughter Savannah, 7 months.
