5 Games In 6 Nights Begins Tuesday In Portland

The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club will skate in the team ‚¬â„¢s toughest travel week of the 2010-11 regular season starting Tuesday in Portland. HERSHEY will play five games in six nights this week, the team ‚¬â„¢s busiest stretch of the season, with the first four games coming on the road. Following the game in Portland Tuesday, the BEARS will head to Worcester Wednesday and Connecticut on Friday before traveling to Glens Falls, NY to play Adirondack on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

The BEARS hold down second place in the East Division standings with five weeks to go in the regular season. HERSHEY trails first place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton by eight points, and maintains a four-point lead over third place Charlotte. Norfolk is seven points back of HERSHEY with a game in hand. The top two teams in the East Division race at season ‚¬â„¢s end have home ice in the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs in the East Division Semi-Finals.

HERSHEY returns home Sunday to play the Norfolk Admirals at Giant Center at 5:00 p.m. Following Sunday ‚¬â„¢s game, the BEARS will have just 11 regular season games remaining and just six home games left. BEARS acquire Schaefer: HERSHEY obtained goaltender Nolan Schaefer on loan from the Boston Bruins on Friday. Schaefer won his first game for HERSHEY on Saturday, making 29 saves in a win over the Norfolk Admirals. Schaefer played briefly with the Chocolate and White during the 2006-07 season.

Busy BEARS: HERSHEY is in the midst of seven games in nine days as the team travels to New England this week. The BEARS played Norfolk and Wilkes- Barre/Scranton at home this past Saturday and Sunday, and will skate at Portland Tuesday before heading to Worcester Wednesday night. The stretch concludes this weekend with a Friday road game at Connecticut, a Saturday game in Glens Falls, NY against Adirondack and a home game Sunday against the Norfolk Admirals at Giant Center.

Closing in on 700: Center Keith Aucoin has 698 career points in the AHL heading into action this week. Aucoin was injured in Saturday ‚¬â„¢s game against Norfolk and did not play Sunday against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

One win short of 100: HERSHEY head coach Mark French enters Tuesday ‚¬â„¢s game in Portland with 99 career AHL wins. French won an AHL record 60 games in his rookie season in 2009-10, and has 39 in 2010-11.

DeMichiel released: The BEARS released goaltender Jared DeMichiel from his pro tryout contract on Saturday. DeMichiel, who won two games for HERSHEY, returned to South Carolina (ECHL).

Perreault returns in style: Center Mathieu Perreault played his first home game for HERSHEY on Saturday since early December, and scored the game-winning goal late in the third period against Norfolk. Perreault was also named the game ‚¬â„¢s number one star.
