Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio-Midwest League home run leader Ronaldo Hernandez lined a three-run homer to break a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning as the Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the Dayton Dragons 5-2 on Monday night. The start of the game was delayed for 41 minutes due to expected rain. A crowd of 8,076 was in attendance at Fifth Third Field.
The Dragons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Reshard Munroe drilled a two-run home run to right field. It was his second homer with the Dragons.
Bowling Green responded with one run in the fourth and then four more in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead. They tied the game on a two-out infield single by Jim Haley, and with two men on base, Hernandez lined a home run to left field to break the tie. It was Hernandez's 19th homer of the year.
The Dragons had two runners as far as second base after Munroe's homer in the third, getting a two-out double from Andy Sugilio in the fourth and a single by Lorenzo Cedrola in the sixth, followed by a balk. But they could not capitalize and were shutout over the final six innings of the game.
Dayton starting pitcher Patrick McGuff (2-5) worked six innings, allowing five runs on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts to take the loss. Dauri Moreta replaced McGuff to start the seventh and finished the game, retiring nine of the 10 batters he faced over three scoreless innings. Moreta struck out six.
The Dragons five-hit attack was led by Sugilio, who had a single and double. Jose Garcia had one hit to extend his hitting streak to seven straight games.
