Kalamazoo Wings News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI - After spending Saturday and Sunday away from home, the Kalamazoo Wings will celebrate St. Patrick's Day by hosting the 35th annual 'World Famous' Green Ice game on Thursday, March 17 at Wings Event Center.
The annual St. Patrick's Day tradition dates back to 1982, when the Wings organization dyed the ice with food coloring and became the first professional hockey team to play on colored ice. The dyeing process is a more perfected process 35 years later, and the Wings continue to foster the mid-March tradition.
In keeping with the tradition, Thursday's game against the Brampton Beast features one-of-a-kind St. Patrick's Day themed jerseys that will be worn by the Wings. The jerseys will be auctioned off after the game, and all proceeds will be donated to the Help Now! Fund, which was established in the wake of the February 20 shootings in Kalamazoo.
Wings Event Center will feature holiday-themed concession items during the game, including: green beer, 16 oz. Guinness cans, and Reuben sandwiches.
The Wings and Beast will meet for the ninth time on the season, with Kalamazoo holding a 5-3-0-0 edge in the season series. Ludwig Blomstrand leads the way offensively for Kalamazoo against Brampton this year, having posted six goals and two assists. Curtis Valk has chipped in seven points (one goal, six assists) in just four games played against the Beast this season.
Thursday's game is one of only five remaining regular season home games for the Kalamazoo Wings this season.
As the weekend home stand continues, Kalamazoo will host Ninja Turtles night on Saturday, March 19 against the Wheeling Nailers. The Wings invite Rafael, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Leonardo to Wings Event Center for photo opportunities and fan interactions. The Hungry Howie's concession stand will feature specials on the Turtles' favorite dining option, by offering $1 pizza slices.
During the games on March 17 and 19, fans are encouraged to vote for the Most Popular Player award, which will be awarded at the conclusion of the Wings' final home game of the season on April 9. Fans can place their votes at the Meijer Guest Relations booth, located behind section one.
Listen to all 72 regular season and post season games on AM 1660 The Fan in Kalamazoo, or online at www.1660thefan.com/listen-live. Live coverage begins fifteen minutes before puck drop with the Flame Tamer Pregame Show.

Box office hours are Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. A $2 discount is applied on all tickets purchased before the date of the game.
