QMJHL Halifax Mooseheads

20th Win of the Season for the Moose

December 16, 2022 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Halifax Mooseheads News Release

With 8,237 rowdy fans cheering them on at Scotiabank Centre, the Mooseheads wrapped up the pre-Christmas home schedule in style with a 7-3 thumping of the Charlottetown Islanders.

Jordan Dumais had yet another productive evening with two goals and one assist to lead the way while Zach L'Heureux scored once and chipped in a pair of helpers and Josh Lawrence notched three assists and Halifax improved its Maritimes Division-leading record to 20-7-3-1 in the final home game before 2023. The Herd and the Isles will meet one more time before the break when they face off Saturday night at 7pm at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.

Other goal scorers for the Moose included Dylan MacKinnon, Evan Boucher, Mathieu Cataford and Owen Phillips while goalie Brady James stopped 31 of the 34 shots he faced to backstop the victory.

For Dumais, his three point effort has upped his QMJHL scoring lead to 59 points on the season in 27 games played. The Columbus Blue Jackets prospect also moved into 10th all-time in Mooseheads franchise scoring with 197 points, surpassing both Jason Troini and Arnaud Durandeau on the list.

Another player climbing the record book is Markus Vidicek who increased his ironman streak to 142 consecutive games played. Vidicek has not missed a game in his entire career since debuting with the Herd as a 16-year-old in 2020-21. His games played streak is sixth in team history and he is just five back of Ryan Hillier and Ali MacEachern. Travis Randall holds the longest ironman streak in Mooseheads history with 222 consecutive games played.

Halifax was 2-for-4 on the power play which was a good sign for a struggling unit that was clicking at just 9.3% since November 12th.

Defenceman Cam McKenzie was called up from the Pictou County Junior A Crushers and served as the seventh defenceman. Owen Phillips was questionable with a minor upper body injury but was able to play. Jake Todd and Liam Welsh were healthy scratches. Blueliner Cam Whynot left the game in the second period with a lower body injury and did not return. David Moravec and Attilio Biasca were two regulars not in the lineup with both European Imports attending World Junior camps with Czechia and Switzerland.

The QMJHL trade period begins on Sunday at Noon ET and runs until Friday, January 6th. The next home game for the Mooseheads is scheduled for Sunday, January 8th against the Cape Breton Eagles at 2pm. Tickets are on sale now at TicketAtlantic.com.
