2013 Late Rally Enough For Wings

EDINBURG, Texas- It was a wild one at Edinburg Baseball Stadium as the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings slipped past the Edinburg Roadrunners 6-4 Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

WhiteWings Designated hitter Thomas Shull hit a one out single in the top of the first inning, opening the door for slugger Aaron Gates. Gates then smashed a two run home run over the right field wall giving the Wings an early 2-0 advantage; Gates hit his second consecutive home run in two days.

Wings second basemen Kiego Miyagi led off the second inning with a base hit single, two outs later Albert Carpen scored Miyagi on an RBI double adding to the lead making it 3-0 Wings.

Edinburg's Carlton Salters blasted a solo home run to trim the lead to 3-1.

In the bottom of the third Trevor Mcdonald reached first on an error at third, one batter later Agustin Septimo advanced Mcdonald to second on the base hit single. With one out in the inning Chris Christopolous tied the game on a one out two run RBI single tying the game at three runs even.

WhiteWings left fielder Albert Carpen broke a deadlock tie on an RBI double scoring Miyagi giving the Wings a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning.

In the seventh inning Chris Christopolous got a board with a one out single. With two outs in the inning Trevor Whyte tied the game with an RBI single.

In the top of the ninth inning Albert Carpen and Thomas Shull drew back to back walks, Carpen advanced to third on the fielder's choice. Relief pitcher Julio Castro committed a balk, scoring Carpen from third giving the Wings a 6-4. Michael Garcia then came to the plate and hit an RBI single scoring Shull from third.

The two run rally in the ninth inning would prove to be enough as the WhiteWings took game one with the Roadrunners.

Game two is set for Saturday, first pitch is 7:05.
