Early Rally, Late Homer Lead Cats to Series Split

June 14, 2013 - United League Baseball (ULB)
Fort Worth Cats News Release

The Fort Worth Cats came from behind in the middle innings of Thursday night's game against the Alexandria Aces to split the series and extend their lead in the United League.

The Aces got out to an early lead with one run in the second inning and two more in the third.

However, the lead did not last long as the Cats tied the game in the fourth on two sacrifice flies and a two-out double.

After center fielder Cameron Monger led off the fifth inning with a double, he was driven in by second baseman Aljay Davis, and the Cats took their first lead of the game.

Aces left fielder Derrick Pyles tied the game in the seventh inning with his second home run of the game, but the Cats rebounded in the eighth, taking the lead for good on right fielder Chris Ellison's first home run of the season.

Though he gave up the game-tying run, relief pitcher Hector Contin got the win and Chad Robinson came on for the two-inning save.

Because the Edinburg Roadrunners defeated the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings on Thursday, the Cats now hold a two-game lead over the Whitewings and Aces in United League Baseball.

The Cats return home for a four-game series with the Thunder on Friday. That series will be directly followed by a four-game series with the Whitewings.

Tickets to the homestand can be purchased by going to FWCats.com or by calling (817) 332-CATS.
