EDINBURG, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley White Wings scored on a balk in the ninth inning to defeat the Edinburg Roadrunners by a score 6-4 at Edinburg Baseball Stadium on Friday night.
The White Wings got on the board in the first inning when Thomas Schull reached on an error and then Aaron Gates launched his fourth homerun of the season to make it 2-0 game.
Rio Grande Valley (11-10) added another in the second inning when Kiego Miyagi reached on a single and scored on an RBI double hit by Albert Carpen to make it 3-0.
Edinburg (9-12) would respond in their half when Carlton Salters hit his second homerun of the season to trim the White Wings lead to 3-1.
Edinburg would tie the game at three, when Chris Christopolous hit a two-run single that drove in Agustin Septimo and Trevor McDonald.
Rio Grande Valley would regain the lead in the sixth inning when Carpen hit an RBI single that made it 4-3.
The Roadrunners responded in the bottom of the seventh when Trevor Whyte drove in Christopolous to tie the game at four.
In the ninth inning, the White Wings got a run across on a balk that made it 5-4, then Michael Garcia hit an RBI single to end the scoring at 6-4.
Julio Castro (1-1) took the loss for Edinburg throwing an inning giving up two runs on two hits.
Nelson Curry (1-0) earned the win for the WhiteWings going an inning and a third striking out two hitters.
Kyle Wahl notched his sixth save of the season throw a scoreless frame with two strikeouts.
The Roadrunners will face the White Wings in game two of the four game series on Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch set for 7:05 pm.
Sunday's home game will be RGV Food Bank Night where four cans of non-perishable food will get you a general admission ticket.
