2008 Philadelphia Soul Schedule Set; Weekends Are Back

November 1, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Philadelphia Soul News Release

PHILADELPHIA - The Arena Football League has finalized the Philadelphia Soul's schedule for the 2008 season. The Soul's fifth season sets to kickoff at home during the opening weekend on March 1st against Orlando, who the Soul defeated in their first home playoff game last year.

After having one of the toughest schedules in the league last year with a bye the first week and six Monday night games, the Soul have a more balanced schedule with many home weekend games and no long-consecutive away games.

Head coach Bret Munsey realizes the importance of a good schedule and looks forward to the upcoming season. "I'm excited about the 2008 schedule. It's going to be a competitive year and there's no layups in any aspect of Arena Football. You have to be ready to go out there and work hard but having a great schedule definitely helps us out."

The Soul have home and away contests against divisional opponents New York Dragons, Columbus Destroyers, Dallas Desperados and the newly relocated Cleveland team. They will also host home games against Tampa Bay (March 29), Utah (April 5), Kansas City (May 22) while traveling to Chicago (March 9), Los Angeles (March 20), defending Arena Bowl Champions San Jose (April 12) and Georgia (May 12).

General Manager Rich Lisk is extremely excited about the upcoming season. "This season, our fifth year anniversary season, will be a special one with all the different promotions, events and celebrations we have planned," Lisk said when asked about what is ahead for the Soul.

After an amazing come back from a six game losing streak the Soul was able to qualify for the playoffs and host its first home playoff game last year. This has excited the whole organization. Lisk added, "Coming off our first home playoff victory, we've revamped our game presentation, our pregame show, we're in the process of tweaking our team and with our great schedule filled with weekend home games we're excited to show Philly what we're all about."

Included in some of those exciting events are different themes for each of the eight home games. The first home game against Orlando will be a Five Year Anniversary Celebration Night as well as a Ladies Night Out. When New York comes to town on March 16th, it will be an Irish Day celebrating St. Patrick's Day weekend.

One of the Soul's main focuses is to make family entertainment affordable, which is why March 29th will be Educational Jamboree day to focus on how important a good education is. On April 5th the Soul will play its first game of the season in the Wachovia Spectrum. Since the Spectrum was one of the premier venues the 1980's, this game's theme will be 80's Night.

The first home Monday game will be not only Union Night in honor of those hardworking union members throughout our great city, but also will be Monday Night Football Arena style broadcast on ESPN2. May 17th's themed NASCAR Night and May 22nd's Memorial Day Kickoff Classic are sure to bring a fun atmosphere to both Soul games. The final home game of the season will be Saturday June 14th. This game will be Hero's Night as well as Fan Appreciation Night. If any individuals or groups are interested in attending any of these specific theme nights, feel free to contact anyone in the Sales office at 215-636-0421.
