November 1, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Tampa Bay Storm News Release
TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm announced their schedule for the 2008 season presented by Champs Sports, Where Sport Lives today. The highlight of the schedule is a Monday night game against the Chicago Rush on ESPN2, May 5 at the St. Pete Times Forum on Bill Currie Ford Field.
"We are pleased with the schedule," said Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum. "We are on the road a bit early in the season but that allows us to play seven of our last 11 games at home."
The 'War on I-4' has a prominent position in the schedule as the Storm travel to face their in-state rival, the Orlando Predators, in Week 9 and host them in Week 15. The teams have split the last 10 contests with each team winning five as the Storm are 19-22 all-time against Orlando.
Along with the games against Orlando, Tampa Bay plays each of it's Southern Division rivals twice, once at home and once on the road. Tampa Bay hosts the Southern Division champs, Georgia Force, in Week 2 and then visits them in Week 14. They travel to New Orleans to face the VooDoo in Week 3 while the VooDoo come to Tampa in Week 11.
Other Key dates include a June 14 showdown at San Jose against the reigning ArenaBowl Champion SaberCats led by Mark Grieb. The newly relocated Cleveland franchise comes to town in Week 11. The Storm will appear on ESPN2 twice this season. Along with the Monday night game against Chicago in Week 10, Tampa Bay travels to Philadelphia to take on the Soul and quarterback Tony Graziani for a Saturday afternoon contest on ESPN2 at 2 p.m. EST.
The Tampa Bay Storm look forward to the 2008 season as many key players from 2007 will return. AFL Co-Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie quarterback Brett Dietz, All-Ironman Lawrence Samuels, record-setting fullback Torrance Marshall and touchdown-leading wide receiver Terrill Shaw, among others will be back to take the 2008 AFL season by storm.
