Everett Silvertips News Release
The Everett Silvertips capped off their best season in franchise history with a 2-0 win over the Vancouver Giants at the Everett Events Center on Saturday, March 17. The Silvertips finished the 2006-2007 regular season with a record of 54-15-1-2 (111 points) and captured the 2006-2007 US Division and WHL Regular Season Championship. The Silvertips will begin the 2007 WHL Playoffs on Friday, March 23 against the Spokane Chiefs at the Everett Events Center. 2006-2007 SILVERTIPS LEADING SCORERS
Silvertips forward Zach Hamill (32 goals, 61 assists) finished 1st on the hockey club in scoring with 93 points. Peter Mueller (21 goals, 57 assists) finished 2nd on the hockey club in scoring with 78 points. Kyle Beach (29 goals, 32 assists) finished 3rd on the team in scoring with 61 points. Hamill led the Silvertips in assists (61) while Moises Gutierrez (35 goals, 20 assists) led the team in goals scored (35) and power play goals (24). Silvertips forward Kyle Beach led the hockey club in +/- with a +27. In goal, Leland Irving posted 34 wins, 1.86 GAA, 92.9% SP and 11 Shutouts. David Reekie finished 20-6 with the Silvertips and posted a 1.77 GAA, 92.5% SP and 3 shutouts with Everett this season.
EVERETT SILVERTIPS AMONG LEAGUE LEADERS
Silvertips forward Zach Hamill (32 goals, 61 assists) finished 1st in the WHL in scoring with 93 points. Peter Mueller (21 goals, 57 assists) finished 13th in the WHL in scoring with 78 points. Hamill finished1st in the WHL in assists (61) while Mueller finished 4th in the WHL in assists (57). Moises Gutierrez (35 goals, 20 assists) ended the season tied for 1st in the WHL in power play goals (24). First year forward Kyle Beach (29 goals, 32 assists) finished 7th in the WHL in rookie scoring with 61 points and led all 16 year olds in the WHL in scoring. Defenseman Jason Fransoo (9 goals, 34 assists) ended the season16th among all WHL defensemen in scoring with 43 points. In goal, Leland Irving finished 2nd in the WHL in GAA (1.86), 1st in SP (92.9%), 1st in Shutouts (11) and 2nd in Wins (34). David Reekie finished 3rd in the WHL in GAA (1.97) and tied for 3rd in SP (91.7%).
EVERETT SILVERTIPS SPECIAL TEAMS
The Silvertips finished 4th in the WHL on the power play (109 for 546, 20.0%) and 2nd in the WHL on the penalty kill (449 for 507, 88.6%).
SILVERTIPS HOME AND ROAD RECORDS
The Silvertips finished 31-4-0-1 at the Everett Events Center this season and 23-11-1-1 on the road.
ZACH HAMILL CAPTURES BOB CLARKE TROPHY AS WHL's TOP SCORER
The Western Hockey League announced that Everett Silvertips forward Zach Hamill has captured the Bob Clarke Trophy as the WHL's Top Scorer. Hamill, an 18-year-old product of Port Coquitlam, B. C., earned the WHL scoring title by tallying 32 goals and 61 assists for 93 points in 69 games this season. He becomes the first member of the Silvertips to win the Bob Clarke Trophy as the WHL's top scorer. The 5'11", 190-pound center led the WHL with 61 assists and was third in the League in points per game average at 1.37. Hamill also enjoyed the longest point streak in the WHL this season, earning at least a point in 15 straight games. Hamill's outstanding season also included being named the Husky WHL Player of the Month for January and the BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week for the week of January 22nd - 28th. Hamill, who is eligible for the 2007 NHL entry draft, has played 183 regular-season games with the Everett Silvertips, and leads the franchise with 61 goals, 126 assists, and 187 points.
Bob Clarke captured the League Scoring title in both years he played in the Western Hockey League with the Flin Flon Bombers. In 1967-68, he recorded 51 goals and 168 points in 59 games, and in 1968-69, he scored 51 goals and 137 points in 58 games. In 1968-69, Clarke led the Bombers to victory in the WHL Championship. Clarke went on to play 15 seasons with the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers. He won two Stanley Cups, three Hart Memorial Trophies as the NHL's MVP, the Bill Masterton Trophy for perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey and the Selke Trophy as the NHL's top defensive forward.
SILVERTIPS BREAK SINGLE SEASON FRANCHISE RECORDS
The 2006-2007 Everett Silvertips broke several franchise records this season. The Silvertips broke single season franchise records in Wins (54), Points (110), Goals Allowed (142), Goals For (239) and Shutouts (14). The 142 Goals Allowed was the lowest in the WHL this season and ranks 4th all time in the WHL. The 14 Shutouts recorded by the Silvertips ties the WHL shutout record with the 2003-2004 Kelowna Rockets and the 2004-2005 Seattle Thunderbirds. Several Silvertips recorded single season franchise records during the 2006-2007 campaign. Zach Hamill broke single season franchise records in Assists (61) and Points (93) while goaltender Leland Irving broke single season franchise records in GAA (1.86) and Shutouts (11).
VERSUS THE SPOKANE CHIEFS
The Silvertips finished the regular season series against the Chiefs with a record of 4-3-0-1 (3-0-0-1 @ Everett, 1-3 @ Spokane). This will be the second all time playoff meeting between the two hockey clubs. The Silvertips battled the Chiefs in the 1st Round of the 2004 WHL Playoffs. Everett won the series 4-0. There are only 4 players remaining from both teams that played in the series in 2004.
