Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba - The Canadian Kidney Foundation is pleased to announce that over $5,000 was raised during the 2007 Tip-a-Wheat King Night, held Wednesday night at Montana's Cookhouse in Brandon.
Kidney Foundation Fundraising Coordinator Gail Janz has confirmed that a record breaking total of $5,400 was generated during the event, which is held annually to raise money for the Westman Office of the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Approximately $4,200 was raised during last year's annual event.
Several players including Matt Lowry and Brayden Schenn waited on tables Wednesday night, with all tips received going to the local charity. As well, the management of Montana's Cookhouse matched all tips.
Schenn edged out Lowry for the top tippers' award. Other players attending this year's event included Keith Aulie, Theran Yeo, Tyler Dittmer, Joe Caligiuri, Brodie Melnychuk, Andrew Clark and Colby Robak.
Tip a Wheat King Night also featured a media Hot Wings Eating Contest on Tuesday night, which was won by Tyler Crayston of CKX Television, a Silent Auction as well as a large collection of door prizes.
"Partnering with the Wheat Kings and Montana's for this event has been a great success," says Janz. "The players, with their great ability of pleasing a crowd on and off the ice, have again shown great community spirit in supporting the Kidney Foundation. The servers at Montana's are to be commended for donating their tips, especially this time of year."
The Wheat Kings, Montana's Cookhouse and Kidney Foundation would like to thank all those western Manitoba hockey fans that attended Wednesday's event and helping to make the 18th annual Tip a Wheat King Night the best yet.
On the ice, the Wheat Kings return to the ice at Westman Place Thursday in preparation for a 3-game Western Hockey League road trip, scheduled to begin Saturday night in Swift Current against the Broncos. Brandon then plays the Tigers in Medicine Hat on Sunday, before closing out the trip on Tuesday night in Regina.
