
Sound Tigers Open Playoffs At Home Thursday

BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, will open the 2004 Calder Cup Playoffs by hosting games one and two of the East Division Semifinals versus the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins tomorrow, Thursday, April 15th, and this Saturday, April 17th. Both games at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard will face-off at 7:05 p.m. The best-of-seven series will then shift to the Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Pennsylvania Sunday at 5:05 p.m. and Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. The complete series schedule is as follows:
Game One at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard Thu. Apr. 15th at 7:05 p.m.
Game Two at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard Sat. Apr. 17th at 7:05 p.m.
Game Three at the Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Sun. Apr. 18th at 5:05 p.m.
Game Four at the Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Tue. Apr 20th at 7:05 p.m.
Game Five at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard (if necessary) Thu. Apr. 22nd at 7:05 p.m.
Game Six at the Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (if necessary) Fri. Apr. 23rd at 7:05 p.m.
Game Seven at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard (if necessary) Sun. Apr. 25th at 4:05 p.m.
This will be the first-ever postseason meeting of the teams. The Sound Tigers are 7-2-1 all-time versus the Penguins, including 5-2-1 this regular season. Eight of the all-time meetings of the teams have been decided by one goal with another ending in a tie, 2-2 in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in this past Sunday's regular-season finale.
This will be the Sound Tigers' third trip to the AHL playoffs in as many seasons in the League. They are 4-2 all-time in playoff series, advancing to the 2002 Calder Cup Finals in their inaugural season of play before losing to the Chicago Wolves, and 17-12 all-time in postseason games. The Sound Tigers finished the regular season in second place in the East Division, third place in the Eastern Conference and fourth place in the overall AHL standings with a single-season-franchise-record-tying 98 points and a 41-23-12-4 record, including 21-10-7-2 at home and 20-13-5-2 on the road. The 20 road wins are also a single-season franchise record.
This will be Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's third trip to the postseason as well. The Penguins are also 4-2 all-time in playoff series, advancing to the 2001 Calder Cup Finals in their second year of play before losing to the Saint John Flames, and 16-11 all-time in playoff games. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton finished the regular season in third place in the East Division with a franchise-record 86 points and a 34-28-10-8 record, including 19-14-5-2 at home, 15-14-5-6 on the road and 4-2-2-2 in their last ten games but on a four-game winless streak at 0-1-2-1.
Sound Tigers individual-game playoff tickets are on sale at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard box office, which is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and on all game days.
