Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
TULSA, Okla. - The Naturals opened the four-game series in Tulsa, Okla. on Thursday night at ONEOK Field and dropped game one to the Tulsa Drillers by a final score 6-2.
Trialing 3-0 heading into the fourth inning, shortstop Raul Mondesi blasted his fourth triple of the season to set up the initial run as Mondesi scampered home on a Jharel Cotton (5-2, 2.18) wild pitch to cut the deficit to 3-1.
An inning later in the top of the fifth, Jorge Bonifacio set the table with a one-out bloop double into centerfield and scored on a two-out RBI single to left by Parker Morin to pull the Naturals within a run. That is all the closer Northwest Arkansas got.
Tulsa plated two more in the bottom of the fifth inning and more in the eighth inning en route to the 6-2 loss to Tulsa (49-61/19-22) on Thursday night.
Right-hander Christian Binford (4-6, 4.98) took the ball for his 15th start of the season and worked 5.0 innings in the loss. The 6-foot-6 hurler allowed five runs on five while while striking out two with three walks in the outing.
Reliever Mark Peterson tossed 2.0 shutout innings of work while Aroni Nina working the last of the eighth inning allowing a run in his appearance on Thursday night.
Morin finished 2-for-3 with an RBI while Bonifacio ended 1-for-4 with his 25th double of the season in the loss.
Game two of the series features two top-line prospects with right-hander Kyle Zimmer (1-0, 2.21) takes the hill for his second start of the season while countering against young left-handed hurler Julio Urias (1-4, 3.30) who toes the slab for the Drillers.
First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. on Friday, August 7 at ONEOK Field.
