RGV Vipers Can Not Complete Comeback

Hidalgo, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (29-17), NBA D-League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, were defeated by Santa Cruz Warriors( 27-19) by a score of 138-125.

Jabari Brown scored 36 points in the game to lead both teams. Two Santa Cruz players had double-doubles on the night. Damian Jones had 12 rebounds and 17 points while Phil Pressey had 10 assists and 13 points.

RGV had two players with double-doubles as well. Chinanu Onuaku collected 15 rebounds and 19 points and Isaiah Taylor had 10 assists and 22 points

Santa Cruz used the first quarter to find separation from the Vipers. Jabari Brown's nine points off the bench helped spark the Warriors offense to obtain a 33-24 lead over Rio Grande Valley.

The Rio Grande Valley Vipers trailed by up to 19 points at one point in the second quarter. Jabari added another 12 in said quarter. Jaron Johnson lit up and scored 12 points in the second quarter after coming off the bench. The Vipers were able to cut the deficit to single digits at the half.

As much as the Vipers tried to catch up, the Warriors managed to slip away. The Warriors ended up scoring 21 three pointers, the most any opponent had had against the RGV Vipers. Isaiah Taylor and Santa Cruz's James Southerland both had 18 points in the second half to leave the game 138-125.

The Rio Grande Valley Vipers will Oklahoma City Blue on Friday night as the team seeks to clinch a spot in the playoffs.
