Lansing Lugnuts News Release

BELOIT, Wisc. - The Lansing Lugnuts (12-17; 38-60) pounded out 16 hits while limiting the Beloit Snappers (11-18; 38-61) to just four hits, completing a three-game sweep with a dominant 10-1 victory on Monday afternoon at Pohlman Field.

The Lugnuts outscored the Snappers 20-5 in the series, only their second sweep of the season. The first was a similarly emphatic three-game sweep in the first half at Wisconsin.

The victories also matched Lansing's longest winning streak of the season.

In his return to the starting lineup for the first time in a month, third baseman Mark Sobolewski went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer. Teammates Jon Talley and Justin McClanahan each added home runs of their own as the Lugnuts scored four runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, three in the seventh, and one in the eighth to wipe out an early 1-0 deficit.

Every member of the Lansing starting nine hit safely, with lead-off hitter Chris Emanuele and ninth-place batter A.J. Jimenez leading the way with three base hits apiece.

Starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez (7-5) allowed just three hits through five innings to pick up the victory. Relievers Ryan Koch hurled three scoreless frames and Yorman Mayora pitched a perfect ninth to close out the win.

Beloit starter Liam Hendriks (1-2) took the loss, surrendering six runs (five earned) on 11 hits through six innings.

In defeat, Snappers third baseman Ramon Santana went 3-for-4 with an RBI double.

The Lugnuts open up a six-game homestand on Tuesday with the opener of a three-game series against Clinton at 7:05 p.m. at Oldsmobile Park. Right-hander Chase Lirette (3-1, 3.88) starts for Lansing, opposed by LumberKings right-hander Kenn Kasparek (7-5, 2.49).
