
Losing Streak Hits Five Games

Clinton, Iowa - The Kane County Cougars (30-32) saw their losing streak extended to a season-long five games after a double header sweep at the hands of the Clinton LumberKings (37-26) on Sunday afternoon at Ashford University Field. Clinton won game one 9-1 and took game two, 4-3.
In game one, the LumberKings scratched across a run in the second inning on a bases loaded walk to Ryan Scott. The Cougars' lone run came in the third inning after Yan Sanchez doubled and Yoel Yanqui reached on an error by Clinton first baseman Ryan Costello. Clinton broke the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Greifer Andrade's two-RBI single broke the 1-1 tie. Jack Larsen's walk with the bases loaded made it 4-1, an error by Cougar shortstop Jancarlos Cinton plated another run and Johnny Adams' two-run double capped the rally. Andrade added a homer in the fifth inning to make it 9-1 LumberKings.
Cougar starter Jhoan Duran (2-2) took the game one loss, surrendering five runs on five hits over 3.1 innings. Steven Moyers (1-0) earned the win for Clinton, surrendering an unearned run over six innings.
In game two, Clinton jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning. RBI singles by Jack Larsen and Ryan Costello began the three-run third and Johnny Adams' sac fly scored the third run. The Cougars stormed back to tie the game. Renae Martinez led off the fourth with his fifth homer of the year. Martinez tied the game in the fifth with a two-run double. However, Johnny Adams drew a bases loaded walk for Clinton in the fifth, putting the LumberKings up for good.
The game two loss went to Cougars' right-hander Jake Winston (0-1) who allowed four runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings. Clinton lefty Oliver Jaskie (3-5) earned the victory with five innings of three-run ball.
