Cats Take Game One of Doubleheader

The SeaWolves dropped their third straight game, falling in the opening game of Saturday night's doubleheader to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7-2.

New Hampshire jumped ahead in the bottom of the second against Erie starter Alex Faedo. Harold Ramirez led off and reached on an error. With two outs, Gunnar Heidt connected on an opposite-field, two-run home run for a 2-0 lead.

The SeaWolves closed the gap to a run in the top of the third against Fisher Cats starter Josh Degraaf. Danny Woodrow and Willi Castro started the inning with back-to-back singles. Daz Cameron hit into a double play, scoring Woodrow from third to make it 2-1.

The Fisher Cats grew their lead in the third. Andrew Guillotte led off the inning and struck out, but reached on a wild pitch. Bo Bichette singled and Jon Berti was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for Cavan Biggio. Faedo walked Biggio, plating Guillotte making it 3-1. Ramirez then singled home Bichette for a 4-1 Cats lead.

In the last of the fourth, New Hampshire added to the lead against Erie reliever Christian Binford. Eduard Pinto led off with a single and Guillotte reached on an error. Bichette doubled home Pinto to make it 5-1. Berti and Biggio followed with back-to-back RBI singles, giving the Fisher Cats a 7-1 advantage.

In the top of the fifth, Will Maddox led off with a single and moved into scoring position on a one-out Woodrow base knock. Cameron singled home Maddox to make it 7-2, but the 'Wolves would not get any closer.

Degraaf (5-5) earned the win for New Hampshire allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

Faedo (1-3) took the loss for the SeaWolves allowing four runs, two earned, on three hits with a walk and four strikeouts in 2.2 innings.
