Akron RubberDucks News Release

Akron's Connor Marabell drove in three runs, and Rob Kaminsky recorded his first career save, as the RubberDucks captured a hard-fought, 9-8 victory over the Altoona Curve Saturday night at People's Natural Gas Field in Altoona, Pa.

Turning Point

The RubberDucks (66-46) rallied for five runs in the fifth inning against Luis Escobar and Bret Helton (5-6) to take a 7-5 lead. Sam Haggerty cracked an RBI triple, his third of the series, and Tyler Krieger and Connor Marabell added sacrifice flies to tie the game, 5-5. A throwing error by Ke'Bryan Hayes forced in the go-ahead run, and Daniel Salters capped the scoring with an RBI double.

Mound Presence

It took six Akron pitchers to see the game through. Sean Brady started and went four innings. He allowed five earned runs and left trailing, 5-2. Dominic DeMasi (8-2) was the beneficiary of the rally, as he picked up the relief win with one scoreless inning of relief. In the end, Kaminsky was summoned from the bullpen in the 9th, with the Ducks up 9-8, and two men on base with one out. He walked Stephen Alemais to load the bases, but rebounded to strike out Cole Tucker and retire Hayes on a fly-out to notch his first career save.

Duck Tales

Marabell socked a key two-run double in the sixth to extend Akron's lead to 9-5. It extended his hit streak to 18 games and gave him three RBI on the night. The Ducks needed all the runs as it turned out. The Curve (58-50) rallied to pull within 9-8, but left the bases loaded in the sixth, seventh and ninth. Nellie Rodriguez was 2-3, with a two-run double in the first.
