Raptors 905 forward-guard Axel Toupane scored a game-high 20 points and centre Sim Bhullar had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead their club to a 98-89 win over the Westchester Knicks Wednesday evening at Westchester County Center in Westchester, New York.
Raptors 905 went on a 12-2 run in the latter half of the opening period to gain a nine-point advantage with a minute left in the frame, which contributed to a 31-25 lead going into the second quarter. The Mississauga club gained its first double-digit lead of the night three minutes into the second period and spread the gap to 18 points at halftime, 59-41.
The Knicks came out strong in the second half, drawing the deficit to within six points by the end of the third quarter. Early in the final period, Westchester kept its third-quarter momentum going, earning a lead with just under six minutes to go in the game for the first time since late in the opening quarter. Soon after the Knicks took that lead, Raptors 905 rounded out the night on a 16-6 run to seal its third victory in four games against Westchester this season.
Scoring in double digits for Raptors 905 were Toupane (20), Bhullar (17), Scott Suggs (14), Greg Smith (13) and John Jordan (10). Leading Westchester offensively were Thanasis Antetokounmpo (15), Travis Trice II (14), Jordan Bachynski (14), Jimmer Fredette (13), and Damien Inglis (10). Gani Lawal had a game-high 12 rebounds and Trice II completed a double-double with a game-high 10 assists.
Raptors 905 led the Knicks in field goal percentage (44.2-40.5), three point percentage (46.2-21.1), points in the paint (52-44) and second-chance points (12-9), while Westchester held the advantage in free throw percentage (77.3-66.7) and fast-break points (26-13).
Raptors 905 is back in action Saturday, February 20 when the club visits the Canton Charge at 7 p.m. Raptors 905 returns home to Hershey Centre in Mississauga Sunday, February 21 when it plays host to the Charge at 6 p.m.
