Maine Celtics News Release
Erie, PA - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, turned a close game into a rout of the Erie Bayhawks, 121-97.
The win is Maine's fourth straight. With the game tied at 79 late in the 3rd quarter, the Red Claws went on a 23-0 run to take command of the game. Malcolm Miller led the Claws with 24 points (8-11 FG, 6-7 3FG), Levi Randolph with 19 points, Omari Johnson added 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Corey Walden scored 17 points on 7-7 shooting. The Red Claws have now gone 5-1 in their last six games, all with no players on assignment from the Boston Celtics.
Maine (18-13) got off to a slow start in its first game after the All-Star Break. Miller's early buckets kept Maine within striking distance, but the Red Claws trailed 29-24 after one. The Claws got the lead back in the second quarter, when Randolph hit a pair of free throws and Coty Clarke scored to get the Claws to a 36-33 advantage. The lead would change several times, with Erie draining a buzzer-beater to end the half, giving the Bayhawks a 54-52 lead at the break.
The back-and-forth action continued in the 3rd quarter. Maine opened the period on a 11-2 run, and would extend to a 12-point lead, but Erie would come all the way back to tie the game at 79. From that point, the Red Claws closed out the quarter with 10 straight points, then scored the first 13 points of the 4th quarter. The 23-0 run sunk the Bayhawks, as Maine cruised to victory from there. The Red Claws out-scored Erie 32-18 in the 4th quarter, and 69-43 in the second half.
The Red Claws continued their hot shooting, scoring more than 108 points for the fifth straight game. Maine shot 53% (45-85) from the floor, and 52% (13-25) from three-point range.
Maine next heads to Delaware for a pair of games this Friday and Saturday. The Red Claws return to the Portland Expo on Thursday, Feb. 25 for another showdown with the 87ers. Tickets are on sale now by calling 207-210-6655 or visiting MaineRedClaws.com.
