Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Rookie goalie Tristan Jarry turned in another shining performance in goal, but the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins fell to the Portland Pirates in overtime, 2-1, on Saturday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Jarry made 34 saves through 61:29 of game time and kept his team in the game when the Pirates built several tidal waves of offensive pressure.

"Jarry played really well," said Penguins head coach Clark Donatelli. "Our hat's off to him. He played outstanding. He was a rock back there."

After two scoreless periods, Portland's Rob Flick scored the first goal of the game 3:08 into the third.

Dominik Simon, who returned to the line-up after a six-game absence, answered Flick's go-ahead goal with an equalizer at 11:01 of the final period of regulation. Kael Mouillierat earned an assist on Simon's goal, giving him nine points in his last seven games.

Tied 1-1 with less than a minute to go in the third period, Carter Rowney was awarded a penalty shot. With the fans on their feet, Rowney was denied the winning goal by Sam Brittain, who finished the game with 23 saves.

Overtime ended at 1:29 when Pirates defenseman Michael Matheson was sprung on a breakaway and wristed in the deciding goal, ending the game, 2-1.

It was just the second time this season the Penguins lost in overtime, dropping their record in extra time to 6-2.

Neither team scored on any of their power play opportunities in the game. The Penguins were unsuccessful on four man advantages, but held the Pirates at bay on both of their power play chances.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (32-14-2-1) takes on Portland again tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016 at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:05 p.m., and is also one of the Penguins' Kids Get in Free games. Any child age 14 or younger can attend the game free of charge with the purchase of an adult ticket.
