Cleveland Charge News Release
The Canton Charge (20-15), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, nabbed their fifth consecutive victory away from home with a 96-83 win over the Grand Rapids Drive (16-16) on Saturday night.
The Charge took the lead 9-6 on a Brandon Paul three-pointer with 7:29 remaining in the first quarter and never looked back, building an advantage of as many as 22. Canton led by double digits for all but two possessions for the final three quarters, responding each time to maintain their comfortable lead.
All five Charge starters scored in double figures and tallied 84 of the team's 96 points. Canton held Grand Rapids to 32 points on 11-of-36 shooting (31%) in the opening 24 minutes, the least amount of points they've allowed in a half all season. Canton boasts the top-ranked scoring defense in the D-League (96.9ppg) and they are now 16-4 when holding opponents under 100 points this season.
Stephen Holt led Canton with 24 points on 6-of-13 shooting and 10-of-10 from the free-throw line in 29 minutes. Paul finished with 23 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, in 29 minutes. Arinze Onuaku posted his 23rd double-double of the year by netting 15 points on a perfect 7-of-7 night from the floor to go along with 11 boards in 39 minutes. James Singleton added his first double-double in a Charge uniform with 11 points and 13 rebounds in 39 minutes.
Adonis Thomas paced the Drive with 21 points on 9-of-18 shooting in 38 minutes. Willie Reed supplied 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting and 17 rebounds in 41 minutes. The season series between the two teams is now even at one win apiece.
