"Killer B's" Down Frontenacs

Mississauga Steelheads News Release

MISSISSAUGA, ON - Despite the yellow-and-black down at the other end of the ice, it was the Steelheads' "B's" who would lead the Trout to a 5-1 victory in Kingston. Brandon (Devlin), Bryson (Cianfrone), (Nathan) Bastian, Stefan "Blancer" LeBlanc, (Jesse) Barwell, (Sam) Babintsev and (Josh) Burnside all picked up points in the victory, as did Sean Day.

Physicality was the name of the game early in the first, as both teams traded big hits in the first. The first offensive chance of the game saw Babintsev with a great chance, however Kingston's Jeremy Helvig would turn him away to keep the game scoreless. The Steelheads would find themselves coming close on a penalty to Ryan Kujawinski, however Helvig would stay on his game to turn away all 12 Steelheads shots in the period, keeping the game at a scoreless draw after the first.

The Steelheads would be rewarded for the offensive pressure early in the second frame, as Devlin was left alone in the slot, and Cianfrone would spot him for the tap-in to make it 1-0 Steelheads. Kingston would turn on to the attack with the man advantage, but Spencer Martin would come up big to keep the Steelheads ahead in the period. Spencer Watson would finally break the Kingston goose egg on a one-timer midway through the period, but Bastian answered for the Trout just over 3 minutes later with a spinning shot in the slot with the assist going to LeBlanc. The Steelheads' perfect penalty kill would be tested again before the end of the second period, but a strong forecheck kept Kingston from adding to the scoresheet.

Despite a Steelheads powerplay to start the period, they would soon find themselves down two men early in the frame. Martin was on his game however, turning away a number of Frontenacs opportunities. After Cianfrone was turned away on a great shorthanded chance, Bobby MacIntyre would break in with a chance of his own. Despite a pad save by Helvig, Barwell would jump on the rebound and extend the lead to 3-1. With the offensive pressure on, Babintsev would be the next Steelhead to strike, wristing one in from the slot. Martin would turn the Frontenacs away on their final scoring chance of the game, and Bastian would add an empty net goal to seal a 5-1 victory for the Trout.

A 42-save performance by Spencer Martin would earn him the first star of the game, while Sean Day was named second star ahead of Kingston's Jeremy Helvig.

The Steelheads will return to action on Monday afternoon as they welcome Kingston to the Hershey Centre for a Thanksgiving Day Matinee! Great seats are still available by logging on to Ticketmaster!
