Three Goal Third Buries IceDogs
October 10, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
A three goal third period by the Ottawa 67's gave the Niagara IceDogs their fourth straight loss Friday night in Ottawa.
The IceDogs opened the scoring for the fourth time in four games this season, when Carter Verhaeghe forced a turnover and beat 67's goaltender Liam Herbst with a wrist shot shorthanded. The 67's answered with just over three minutes remaining in the first as Dante Salituro scored his first of the season.
The second period was all IceDogs. Goals from Cody Payne and Matt Gillard, thanks to a couple great passes by Vince Dunn and Mitchell Fitzmorris, gave them a 3-1 lead heading into the final frame.
The wheels came off in the third however, as Salituro scored two more, including the game-winner with under five minutes to go. The IceDogs got a late power play and poured on the pressure but couldn't convert, falling to 0-4-0-0 to start the season.
