Greensboro, NC - The Delmarva Shorebirds won the series opener over the Greensboro Grasshoppers on the strength of phenomenonal pitching. Delmarva (65-68) took one step closer to the goal of posting their first winning record since 2008.

Mitch Horacek dealt in the start for Delmarva. The Shorebirds' lefty allowed one run on four hits over seven innings. Horacek retired the final 14 batters he faced after a walk to Carlos Lopez in the third.

Lorenzo lined an RBI single to center in the fourth. In the fifth, Anthony Caronia bounced an RBI single through the hole at shortstop.

With Delmarva leading 5-1 after eight innings, the game tightened in the ninth. After an error, Brian Anderson smashed a two-run home run for Greensboro. Derrick Bleeker recovered by retiring the next three batters to finish the victory.
