
Gnats Drop Sixth Straight Game Tuesday

Savannah, Ga.- The Augusta GreenJackets scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat the Savannah Sand Gnats 5-3 on Tuesday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. The loss is the sixth straight for the Gnats, their longest skid of the 2014 season.
The GreenJackets (26-38/60-72) scored the go-ahead run on an RBI groundout by rightfielder Craig Massoni on which the Gnats had a chance to turn a double play, but could not.
The Gnats (38-26/82-48), who never led in the ballgame, evened the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jorge Rivero doubled home third baseman Nelfi Zapata and then scored the tying run on shortstop Yeixon Ruiz's infield chopper.
Savannah starter Rob Whalen fought his way through 6.2 innings, allowing three runs, all earned, on five hits and two walks to go with seven strikeouts.
The Gnats send RHP Octavio Acosta (1-1, 2.89) to the mound on Wednesday against RHP Chase Johnson (3-7, 4.88).
