Bowie Baysox News Release

Bowie, Md. - Chris Marrero tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with a solo home run and David Adams won it with a three-run, walk-off homer as the Baysox (62-63) shocked Trenton (60-66) in a 7-4 win Friday night.

The Baysox coughed up the lead on a two-out, run-scoring balk in the top of the seventh, but were able to win the game in regulation thanks to the two-out home run from Adams. The Thunder intentionally walked Buck Britton to pitch to Adams with two outs, but the second baseman got the last laugh against his old team. Adams spent the first six years of his career with the Yankees and last played for Trenton in 2012.

Trenton jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second inning against Baysox starter Anthony Vasquez. Tyler Austin hit a lead off double to left field and Greg Bird followed with a walk. Austin moved to third base on a flyout by Dante Bichette, Jr. and scored on a Mason Williams groundout to second base to give Trenton a 1-0 lead.

The Baysox answered quickly in the bottom half of the inning against Trenton starter Jaron Long. Garabez Rosa, Michael Ohlman and Marrero each singled to load the bases and with one out, Mike Yastrzemski brought two runs home with a double to right field. Niuman Romero brought the third run of the inning home with a groundout to shortstop to give Bowie a 3-1 lead.

The Thunder picked up a run in the top of the fifth inning. Ali Castillo hit a lead off single to left field and stole second base with one out before scoring on a Gary Sanchez two-out single to right field to make the score 3-2.

Trenton came back to take the lead in the top of the seventh inning after a two-out mistake from the Baysox. Castillo drew a one-out walk and moved to third base on a Jake Cave single to right field. With two outs, Steven Hensley replaced Vasquez on the mound and was called for a balk before throwing a pitch, allowing Castillo to score. Sanchez followed with a single to center field that scored Cave and gave the Thunder a 4-3 lead.

Bowie came back to win the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. Marrero led off the inning with a game-tying solo home run to left field and Glynn Davis followed with a walk. With two outs, Trenton elected to intentionally walk Britton and pitch to Adams and he made them pay with a three-run homer to left field to win the game 7-4.

Vasquez pitched six and two-thirds innings and allowed four runs on six hits while striking out five and walking three in the no decision. Hensley recorded the final out of the seventh inning, allowing two hits and striking out one. Reliever Marcel Prado pitched the final two innings for the Baysox, allowing one hit and no runs in the win.

Goody took the loss for Trenton, pitching two-thirds of an inning and allowing four runs on two hits and two walks.

RHP Zach Davies (9-6, 3.11) takes the mound for the Baysox Saturday as the team plays the second game in a three-game home series against the Trenton Thunder.

The Baysox are home through Wednesday, Aug.21 for a seven-day, six-game homestand against the Trenton Thunder and Reading Fightin Phils. Promotional highlights include Glow in the Park Night Saturday, Aug. 16 at 6:35 p.m. and Looney Tunes Night Sunday, Aug. 22 at 6:05 p.m.
