Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The crowd of 4,786 at Fluor Field on Thursday night learned that Bo knows home runs. Behind a 4-5, two-homer night from Bo Greenwell, the Greenville Drive (11-7) won the series opener over the Lexington Legends (10-11) 9-4.
Greenwell, the son of former Red Sox outfielder Mike Greenwell, wasted no time providing a jolt to the Drive offense. Leading off the bottom of the first against Lexington starter Luke Farrell (0-2), the son of Red Sox manager John Farrell, Greenwell smoked a solo homer to the visiting bullpen in right-center for a 1-0 lead.
In the second inning, Greenwell continued his assault of the Fluor Field bullpens, and won round two of the sons of Boston, by driving a two-run homer to the home bullpen in right as part of a three-run frame.
The Legends were held off the scoreboard until the top of the fifth, when they scored three runs against Teddy Stankiewicz (3-1). Carlos Garcia delivered a two-run triple down the left-field line, and Alfredo Escalera added a sacrifice fly to cut the Drive lead to one.
Despite having his scoreless innings streak halted at 15 1/3, Stankiewicz picked up the win by only allowing three hits and one walk in six innings with three strikeouts.
The Drive scored five runs from the fifth to the seventh innings, two of them via Lexington wild pitches. Greenwell drove in a run in the sixth with an RBI single, and a Jantzen Witte sacrifice fly and a Wendell Rijo RBI single scored runs as well.
Lexington scored their final run in the eighth on a wild pitch.
Greenwell went 4-5 with the two homers and four RBIs to pace the Greenville offense. He was joined in the multi-hit club by Jimmy Rider and Witte, who had two hits apiece.
Game two of the four-game series begins at 7:05 on Friday night. RH Mario Alcantara (0-1, 9.00 ERA) gets the starting call for the Drive, while RH Jake Junis (1-2, 2.12 ERA) will start for the Legends.
