Reading Fightin Phils News Release
READING, Pa. - Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley will join the Reading Fightin Phils on Major League rehab assignment Wednesday when the team takes on the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox), the club announced today.
Wednesday's game is scheduled to begin at 7:05, and the first 2,000 adults will receive a Fightin Phils Team Poster. In addition Wednesday, the Fightin Phils Team will sign FREE Autographs for ALL Fans at 5PM (NOTE - Chase Utley will not be a part of the pre-game autograph session).
Utley suffered a right oblique strain and was placed on the disabled list retroactive to May 21. In 44 games with the Phillies this season, he hit .272/.339/.475 with seven homers and 25 RBIs. It will be Utley's first game action as part of the rehab assignment.
A five-time National League All-Star, Utley ranks near the top of several offensive categories among major league second baseman since 2005 including runs scored (1st-722), on-base percentage (1st-.383), slugging percentage (1st-.508), home runs (2nd-181), RBIs (2nd-651), and extra-base hits (2nd-465), making him one of the most prolific second baseman of the last decade.
The UCLA product is also a 4-time National League Silver Slugger and has finished in the top-10 of MVP voting three times. His 2006 season made him one of 15 players in MLB history to finish a season with a .300 AVG, 200 hits, 30 home runs, 100 RBIs, 40 doubles, and 130 runs scored. In 2005, Utley set a Phillies record for RBIs (105) in a season and tied the record for home runs (28) by a second baseman. An integral member of the Phillies 2008 World Series team, Utley is also the Phillies' all-time leader in postseason runs (38), walks (34), stolen bases (10), go-ahead RBIs (10), and game-winning RBIs (5).
Utley was drafted with the 15th overall pick by the Phillies in 2000 and made his major league debut in 2003. His only stop in Baseballtown was in 2007 when he was on Major League rehab assignment following his recovery from a broken right hand.
