State College Spikes News Release
STATE COLLEGE, PA - Monday night, the State College Spikes kicked off the Year of the Millionth Fan in grand style by honoring the one-millionth fan in team history. After whittling down the Opening Night crowd of 5,155 throughout the night, William Kenyon of State College emerged as the Spikes' Millionth Fan in a post-game ceremony.
William won a one-of-a-kind Spikes prize package, including Spikes season tickets for life, his own Spikes jersey with the number 1 and the name "Millionth" on it, the chance to "own the ballpark" for a day, and an array of fantastic Spikes memorabilia.
Kenyon, who was one of nine finalists for the honor, also received the chance to win $1,000,000 by rolling four dice (each one cubic foot in size) and landing on the PSECU symbol on each. Kenyon elected to roll all four dice at once, and made the symbol on one die, but came up short of receiving the $1,000,000.
Despite not walking out of Medlar Field at Lubrano Park with the money, Kenyon did receive a great consolation prize and the lasting recognition of being the Spikes' Millionth Fan.
The nine finalists, who were selected from the crowd in a random drawing over the course of Monday's game, all made their way down on the field for the post-game events. Each of the nine names was then placed in its' own container, and drawn in reverse raffle style to eliminate finalists one by one. For the final draw, Spikes Chairman and Managing Partner Chuck Greenberg revealed the 999,999th fan in team history and announced Kenyon as the winner.
Each of the finalists also received a consolation prize, ranging from a 20-person ballpark suite to tickets to future Spikes games.
The Spikes return home to start on the way to two million fans in ballpark history on Wednesday, June 19, when they face the Crosscutters at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans of all ages will receive their very own Super Ike Action Figurine, and it's the first Half-Price Wednesday of the year, presented by BIG Froggy 101. Fans can purchase half-price Outfield Bleacher tickets, and then enjoy half-price select domestic draft beers from 6-8 p.m. as well as half-price medium sodas all game long.
Tickets for Wednesday's game, as well as every Spikes home game on the 2013 slate, are currently on sale through the Spikes Box Office by calling (814) 272-1711 or by visiting in person. Fans can also buy and print single-game tickets by visiting StateCollegeSpikes.com.
