Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Aberdeen, MD- A six-run fourth inning was the downfall for David Richardson and the IronBirds as they were dropped by the Hudson Valley Renegades.

Richardson (0-1) struggled in the fourth, surrendering five runs and giving up the lead. After back to back singles to cover the corners, the Renegades plated three runs with an RBI double by Daryl George followed by a two-RBI double by Ryan McChesney to give Hudson Valley a 5-2 lead.

Right-hander Janser Severino entered the game in relief but was unable to put out the fire, giving up three more runs on two hits. He allowed two inherited runners to score on a wild pitch and an RBI triple by Ariel Soriano. John Alexander capped off the Renegades rally with an RBI single off Severino to put the game out of reach 8-2.

Hudson Valley battled back to tie the game with two runs in the third frame. Richardson got into a jam surrendering a run on a bases loaded walk to Ismel Antunez. He gave up the second run when short stop Jared Breen was unable to get an out on a would-be double play ball.

Richardson cruised through the first two frames, striking out three of the first six batters he faced while allowing no base runners. But he was unable to carry it into the third and was pulled in the fourth. He pitched 3.1 innings and gave up five runs, all earned on six hits and three walks while striking out five batters.

A lead-off triple by George Barber lead to a run for the IronBirds in the bottom of the first inning. They were disappointed to only score one run after getting the first two on. Winning pitcher Chris Kirsch was able to minimize the damage by inducing a double play that plated Barber for a run but cleared the bases.

Jeff Kemp plated his first professional RBI on a ground out to second base to give Aberdeen a 2- 0 lead in the second frame. Conor Bierfeldt got the inning started off by lacing a double to the left field gap followed by a hit-by-pitch by Scott Kalush. The runners advanced to make it second and third with no outs on a passed ball.

Again Kirsch was able to minimize the damage though, pitching around a runner on third with less than two outs. He forced Anthony Vega to ground out to second with the infield in and Barber to pop-out in foul territory. After going four innings without a base runner, the IronBirds were able to cut the deficit in half, when Hector Veloz clubbed a three-run bomb with two down in the eighth off Renegades reliever Aaron Griffin to make it 10-5. Barber and Breen preceded the blast with one-out singles to get the rally started.

Severino pitched well out of the bullpen despite allowing two inherited runners to score. He tossed 2.2 innings, giving up one earned run, allowing just three hits and striking out six.

Williams Louico entered in relief for the IronBirds in the seventh, giving up two runs in just 0.2 innings of work in his first appearance of the season. Daryl George and McChesney each picked up the RBIs.

Harry Marino pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, fanning three batters and allowing no hits. He finished the seventh inning in relief of Louico with a strikeout, stranding runners on first and second. He pitched around a leadoff error and a walk in the eighth, inducing a 5-4-3 double play and registering his second strikeout.

The IronBirds will try to avoid the sweep tomorrow as they send Luc Rennie to the hill in the final game of the three game set. The Renegades will counter with John Farrell. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 at Ripken Stadium as the IronBirds look to capture their first win of the season before hitting the road.
