Norfolk Tides News Release

The Buffalo Bisons used a five-run third inning to cruise past Jair Jurrjens and the Tides 7-4 Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park.

Norfolk led the contest 2-1 entering the third frame, but Buffalo sent eight men to the plate against Jurrjens to take the lead. The Bisons loaded the bases with nobody out before Jurrjens hit Moises Sierra with a pitch to bring in the tying run. After consecutive sacrifice flies extended Buffalo's advantage to 4-2, Andy LaRoche lofted a two-run homer over the left-field wall to chase Jurrjens and give the Bisons a 6-2 lead.

Jurrjens (4-3) lasted just 2.2 innings, the first time this season he'd failed to pitch at least five innings. He allowed six runs on five hits while walking one.

Buck Britton had two hits to lead Norfolk's offense, including a two-run double in the eighth inning off of Dustin McGowan. Jason Pridie, who returned to the Tides lineup earlier this homestand after missing nearly two weeks with a strained groin, had two hits, an RBI groundout and a run scored. Pridie has now hit .348 (8-for-23) in six games since being activated from the disabled list on May 28.

Justin Germano (4-4) earned the win for Buffalo, as he allowed two runs on five hits in six innings of work. Germano walked two while registering a season-high eight strikeouts. Josh Stilson worked a scoreless ninth to earn his first save of the season.

The Tides will look to salvage a series split on Monday, with first pitch from Harbor Park set for 12:05. Jake Arrieta (3-2, 2.45) will take the hill for Norfolk against Bisons right-hander Claudio Vargas (3-5, 5.87).

Notes: Taylor Teagarden went 0-for-5 in his third game with Norfolk on MLB rehab assignment...Chris Jones set a season-high with 3.2 innings of relief...Andy Loomis tossed 2.1 innings of shutout relief, running his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 11.1...Norfolk went 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
