Rochester Red Wings News Release
Rochester Red Wings (24-32) @ Charlotte Knights (24-33)
Knights Stadium - Fort Mill, SC - 2:15 p.m.
LHP Andrew Albers (2-2, 3.25) vs. RHP Jason Berken (4-4, 3.14)
TONIGHT'S GAME: The Red Wings look to snap their mini, two-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon (2:15 p.m.) against the Charlotte Knights (White Sox) at Knights Stadium in Ft. Mill, SC... The Wings have still won 6 of their last 10 games and are 22-21 since their 2-11 start; but are 10.0 GB of Pawtucket in the IL North... Much like the Wings, the Knights have rebounded from a tough start as they are 17-13 since the beginning of May after going 7-20 in April... The Wings will continue their southern swing in Gwinnett Tuesday-Friday before returning to Frontier Field on Saturday for eight games.
WITH A WIN TONIGHT, THE WINGS...:
-Will avoid tying a season-high five-game road losing streak... Rochester lost five straight on the road from April 11-23.
-Will avoid losing their 6th series of the season and first against Charlotte since June 20-23, 2011.
MORE ABOUT LAST NIGHT...:
-The loss means the Wings won't win a series in Charlotte for another season... Their last series win in Charlotte was 2007.
-The Wings walked a season-high 12 times... Antoan Richardson & Oswaldo Arcia each walked a season-high 3 times.
-Rochester hit into a season-high 4 double plays... They hadn't hit into more than two all season.
-Oswaldo Arcia homered in a team-high three straight games... 2nd time in his career he has hit a home run in three straight games (6/22-6/24/10 w/ Elizabethton)
-Jeff Clement was thrown out two times trying to stretch a single into a double... The last time came in the 9th inning w/ 0 out
-Rochester snapped a season-high 8-game error streak (9 total errors)
HITTIN' THE HOMER: Oswaldo Arcia homered again on Saturday as the Wings have now hit 12 homers in their last five games -- setting a season high for homers in consecutive games. Their 53 homers on the season ranks 3rd in the IL -- 11 behind league-leading Buffalo. Last season, the Wings didn't hit their 53rd homer until July 6 -- their 88th game of the season... The Wings are on pace to hit 136 home runs this season, it would be the most since the Wings hit 138 in 2005.
-31 of the 53 (58%) homers have been solo shots and 48 of 53 (91%) have been either solo or 2-run homers... OF Clete Thomas as all three 3-run homers for the Wings this season.
-The Wings have already gotten 5 home runs from three players (Bernier (2), Fryer (2) & Rohlfing (1)) who hit a combined one HR last season and just 10 homers combined the last two seasons.
TIME TO MAKE OUR MOVE: Prior to Friday's action, the Wings were entering a 16-game stretch against three teams (Charlotte, Gwinnett & Toledo) with a combined .382 winning percentage (63-102)... At current, the Wings won't face another team with a winning record until they travel to Indianapolis on June 25. The Indians, Pittsburgh's top affiliate, currently own the best record in the IL at 36-19.
CLOSE CALLS: The first six games the Wings and Knights have played against each other this season have been decided by a combined nine runs. The last three games between the clubs and four of the six games have been one-run games (all won by CHA)... In the first six games, neither team has scored more than four runs in any game. The Red Wings will need to win the final two games of this four-game set to earn a split of this series and a split of the season series.
-The Wings 6-7-8 hitters yesterday (Brian Dinkelman, Doug Bernier & Eric Farris) are a combined 19-for-50 (.380) with five doubles, a homer and eight RBI against the Knights this season.
-Today's CHA starter Jason Berken is 0-2, 3.41 ERA (11 ER/29 IP) in 6 G (5GS) in career vs. Rochester.
IN A PINCH: OF Brian Dinkelman delivered a two-out, pinch-hit, game-tying home run Friday night in the top of the 9th inning. It was the first pinch-hit homer by a Wings player since Dustin Martin on August 8, 2011 at Durham and the first of Dinkelman's career... He is now 2-for-4 with a walk and 3 RBI pinch-hitting this season. He and Ray Olmedo are a combined 4-for-6 in pinch-hitting spots this season, while the rest of the team is just 1-for-19.
ROHLFING ROLLING: OF/C Dan Rohlfing, who made his Red Wings debut Wednesday by hitting a game-tying, solo home run in his first Triple-A at-bat, has hit in his first four Triple-A games (6-for-10 with 2 BB, 4 R, 2 RBI, HR) and has not skipped a beat since leaving New Britain where he was hitting .353 with 2 doubles, 4 runs and 6 RBI over his last 6 games prior to his promotion. Wednesday's homer was just the 7th of his career and first above the single-A level. His last long ball came over a year ago on April 14, 2012 with Ft. Myers (A)... Rohlfing joins Oswaldo Arcia, Chris Colabello and Nate Hanson as Wings to homer in their Triple-A debut's this season.
