Altoona Curve News Release

ABOUT YESTERDAY...: Altoona was shut out for the sixth time this season with a, 3-0, loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels in the series finale on Sunday. A scary moment occurred in the fourth inning when Curve RF Alex Dickerson collided with Squirrels 1B Ricky Oropesa trying to leg out an infield single. Both team trainers tended to Dickerson on the field before he was taken to a local medical facility as a precaution. He was later diagnosed with a concus- sion and accompanied the team to Reading.

Jameson Taillon (2-5) suffered the loss on Sunday despite striking out a career-high and season-high tying 10 batters. He allowed all three of his runs in the sixth inning on a homer by Mark Minicozzi and a two-run double by Mark Wagner. He was able to finish the sixth for his fifth quality start of the season in the loss. Altoona mustered just two hits with a double from both Dickerson (before he exited the game) and Andrew Lambo. Kenn Kasparek and Quinton Miller pitched scoreless innings of relief in the loss.

CURVE/FIGHTINS SERIES: The Curve and the Reading Fightin Phils meet for the first time this season in the four- game series at FirstEnergy Stadium. It will be the only time that the two clubs meet in Reading in 2013 but they'll have a pair of series in Curve, Pa. (one in early June and the other in mid-August).

FOR ALTOONA: RHP Stolmy Pimentel will actually take the mound on Monday night in the series opener with the Reading Fightin Phils so that he can pitch on regular rest. It's been a rough past two starts for Pimentel, who has allowed six runs in each of the starts to inflate his ERA from a once league-leading 0.74 to 2.89. Last time out vs. Trenton, Pimentel allowed six runs, which tied a season-high, on a season-worst 10 hits in six innings. In his first six starts of the year, Pimentel was 2-0 and had given up three runs total in 36.1 IP. Over his last two, the San Cristobal, D.R. native has allowed 12 runs in 10.1 IP. For more on Pimentel, see page two.

FOR READING: Throwing in Game 1 for the Fightins will be RHP Seth Rosin, who is making his ninth start of the season in his first year in Double-A and first full year in the Phillies organization. A fourth-round pick of the San Francisco Giants in the 2010 draft, Rosin was playing for High-A San Jose in 2012 when he became a part of the deal that sent catcher Tommy Joseph and outfielder Nate Schierholtz to Philadelphia in exchange for outfielder Hunter Pence. He made three starts with Clearwater after the trade and was 2-1 to finish off his 2012 season. This year with Reading he started off the season well, going 1-2 but with an ERA of 3.00 in his first five starts. In three starts this month, however, Rosin is 0-1 and as permitted 10 earned runs in 16.1 IP. He's been quite dominant at home, boasting an ERA of 1.42 (three starts) and an opponents batting average of .197.

THE RETURN OF THE HOMER: The Curve have spent three days away from Peoples Natural Gas Field and have hit three homers on the current road trip to break a seven-game home run drought that occurred during the last home- stand. Jarek Cunningham, Andrew Lambo and Gift Ngoepe have all hit homers in the Richmond series. As a team, the Curve's 29 home runs as a team rank them fifth in the 12-team league.

HE EATS HIS WHEATIES: OF/1B Andrew Lambo doubled in the loss on Sunday afternoon at The Diamond. Lambo leads the team in home runs, RBI, hits and is second on the team in walks. His eight home runs are second-most in the EL entering play this afternoon. He has also reached base in all but three of his 41 games played this season.

THE THRILL OF THE CHASE: 2010 Curve SS Chase d'Arnaud joined the Curve on Saturday night to continue his ML rehab assignment as he is recovering from a partially torn ligament in his left thumb that he suffered in Spring Train- ing. He played in two games with High-A Bradenton earlier this week (Thursday and Friday) and went a combined 2-for-6 with a triple, RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. In his first rehab game with the Curve on Sunday, d'Arnaud was 0-for-3 and played seven innings.

CHARLIE AND THE HIT FACTORY: Catcher Charlie Cutler has been a steady force to be reckoned with in the Curve offense this season. He's been especially happy hitting at Peoples Natural Gas Field, batting a blistering .387 (12- for-31) in 11 games. He's also had the flair for dramatics in some big victories for the Curve this season. His hit in the bottom of the ninth vs. Richmond on April 16 tied the game and forced extra innings. The Curve later won that game with Cutler scoring the winning run. He also won the second game of a doubleheader in Harrisburg with an 11th-inning double. Lastly, he ended the game on Sunday with Richmond when he sailed a ball deep to center that Squirrels centerfielder Jarrett Parker dropped to allow Andrew Lambo to score and secure a walk-off win.

DON'T FORGET YOUR TOOTHBRUSH: The Curve are now three games into one of the tougher stretches on their 2013 schedule. Altoona is in a period of the season where they are playing 13-of-17 games away from home without the benefit of a day off. Done with the series in Richmond, the Curve now open a four-game series with the Reading Fightin Phils in their only trip to FirstEnergy Stadium this season. Then it's back home on Friday for a Memorial Day weekend series with Richmond before the team takes back to the bus on its way through Binghamton and Portland.

BIG LEAGUE CHEW: The Curve have had their share of Major League rehabilitation assignments or former Major Leaguers in their ranks for a few weeks now. Francisco Liriano made one rehab start for the Curve on Saturday, April 20 while reliever Jose Contreras also pitched for the Curve that weekend in Harrisburg on his way to Pittsburgh. Charlie Morton joined the Curve the following week for a pair of rehab starts on April 23 and 28 and was followed by Neil Walker's rehab appearance this past weekend vs. Richmond. Morton returned this week to start Thursday morning's game and Jeff Karstens tossed four innings in Saturday night's game in Rich- mond.
