Topes Walk off in Series Finale

RF Alex Castellanos delivered a game-winning RBI single for Albuquerque (21-22) to defeat the Aces (17-27) 6-5 at Isotopes Park after Reno rallied from four down in the ninth to tie the game at five.

Catcher Matt Wallach and pinch-hitter Matt Angle walked to open the ninth as the topes looked to avoid the series sweep. Several batters later, Castellanos put an end to the game singling to the left side of the infield giving the Topes a 6-5 victory.

Castro turned in a masterful performance Sunday afternoon but came away with a no decision. The righty matched his season high in innings pitched throwing seven frames. He allowed an unearned run in the first but put up zeros over his next six innings. The Dominican native allowed a season-low three hits as a starter and fanned a season-best seven hitters.

Southpaw Kelvin De La Cruz fired a scoreless eighth striking out three hitters continuing his strong pitching out of the pen. Righty Chris Withrow came into the contest in the ninth and allowed four runs after recording two outs to start the inning as Reno forced Albuqueruqe to bat in the ninth. He earned to win going to 3-0 on the year with a 2.87 ERA.

For the fourth time in as many days the Reno Aces took the first lead of the game. CF Tony Campana led off with a single. SS Chris Owings then reached first base on a fielding error by first baseman Rusty Ryal, Campana advanced to third on the play. The first run was put on the board on a sacrifice fly hit by 3B Matt Davidson sending Campana across home plate for a 1-0 score.

A single by 1B Rusty Ryal (3-for-4) and a double by LF Jeremy Moore (1-for-4) had the Topes threating in the second inning. SS Justin Sellers (1-for-3) tied the game at one sending Ryal to home plate on a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Topes loaded the bases in the sixth inning eyeing their first lead of the series. After a fielder's choice put RF Alex Castellanos on first, Ryal singled and 3B Brian Barden walked giving Sellers an RBI opportunity. The Albuquerque shortstop doubled down the left field line scoring Castellanos and Ryal giving the Isotopes a 3-1 advantage.

Pinch-hitter Chili Buss walked to lead the seventh inning off. Two batters later, Herrera belted his third homer of the season into right field improving the Topes lead to 5-1.

Reno evened the game at five a run in the final inning. Rivera singled home RF Brad Synder to pull the Aces within three. Snyder reached on a single. Pinch-hitter Alfredo Martin picked up two RBI on a single and the comeback was completed when catcher Ed Easley scampered home on a wild pitch.

RHP Evan Marshall (1-3, 8.22) suffered the loss allowing a ninth-inning run. Albuquerque welcomes the

Colorado Springs Sky Sox into town for the only series the two will play against each other in 2013. First pitch for game one of the four-game set is scheduled for 6:35 PM MDT tomorrow, April 20.
