
Zephyrs Get Swept in Fresno

FRESNO, California - The Fresno Grizzlies took advantage of a two out error in the sixth inning to score the go ahead run and deliver the Grizzlies a 4-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Chukchansi Park. The win finished off a four game sweep of the Zephyrs and the Z's have dropped a season high five consecutive.
Fresno opened up the second inning with a lead-off single by Brett Pill. He scored one batter later when Roger Kieschnick tripled. The Z's answered in the third inning scoring a pair of runs on four hits. Pitcher Jacob Turner doubled for the Zephyrs followed by a two out RBI double from Bryan Petersen to tie the game. The Z's took the lead with an Ed Lucas single.
Fresno tied the game with two out single from Juan Perez in the fourth inning.
The Grizzlies took the lead for good in the sixth inning. Brett Pill reached on a throwing error from third basemen Matt Downs with two outs. Kieschnick singled followed by a Perez RBI single to give Fresno a 3-2 lead.
Fresno's Franscisco Peguero led off the eighth inning with a home run off of Jordan Smith to give the Grizzlies a 4-2 lead. Fresno right hander Boof Bonser pitched seven innings and earned the win allowing two runs on eight hits.
New Orleans starter Jacob Turner had a great effort allowing three runs, two earned and took the defeat. He allowed seven hits, walked no one and struck-out five.
The Zephyrs struggling offense picked up nine hits on the day. The Z's were aggressive on the base pads with two runners thrown out at the plate.
The Zephyrs have fallen to season low five games under .500 with a record of 18-23.
Game Notes -The Z's activated Kevin Mattison from the disabled list and released infielder Wilson Valdez. The Z's will add pitcher Matt Neil tomorrow from Class AA Jacksonville. The Zephyrs fall to 4-15 when the opponent scores four or more runs. The Z's have allowed a home run in nine consecutive games and 40 long balls for the season, second most in the PCL.
