Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls dropped their second straight game to the visiting Syracuse Chiefs, losing 3-2 Tuesday night at the DBAP. The Bulls scored two first inning runs, but the bats went cold and the bullpen could not hold on after a strong six-inning start from Alex Torres.
Torres struck out seven and allowed just four hits in six scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 1.69. The Bulls gave him an early lead, as Wil Myers singled with two outs in the first. DH Leslie Anderson then drove a 2-1 pitch into the right-field stands for his fifth homer of the year and first since April 20.
After taking a 2-0 lead however, the Bulls' bats went dormant. Durham managed just three hits over the next 8.1 innings. Winning pitcher Ryan Perry (W, 1-2, 5.87) had streaks of 7 and 8 straight Bulls retired in six innings.
Torres left after six innings, and Syracuse wasted no time in doing damage against the Durham bullpen. Catcher Jhonatan Solano greeted reliever Frank De Los Santos (L, 1-1, 6.39) with a single up the middle. Chris Rahl followed with a home run over the Blue Monster to tie the game.
Bulls manager Charlie Montoyo came to the mound with the trainer. He elected to leave De Los Santos in for one more batter. When Eury Perez doubled up the left field line, Montoyo brought in Will Inman. Jeff Kobernus greeted Inman with a bunt single. Inman's throw to first was wild, allowing Perez to score an unearned go-ahead run. That was all the Chiefs needed. The Bulls managed just one hit in three innings against the Syracuse bullpen.
The series continues at 11:05am on Wednesday afternoon as Alex Colome (1-4, 2.84) pitches for the Bulls against Danny Rosenbaum (2-2, 2.51) for Syracuse.
