ALL GOOD THINGS: The RailRiders saw their season-long eight-game winning streak come to a resounding close as the Indianapolis Indians four-hit them at PNC Field last night, 5-0.

JUMP FOR ZOI: Zoilo Almonte had reached on walk and error before he entered the box in the eighth inning with his team-best hitting streak on the line. He then took Erik Cordier's first pitch up the middle for a base hit and ran his run to 11 games. Almonte has hit .366 (15-for-41) with two homers, seven RBIs and three runs scored over his string of success, which is tied for the longest active streak in the IL with Gwinnett's Jose Constanza. Almonte has reached base safely in 16 straight games as part of this run, the top on-base surge by a RailRider this season. Before yesterday's game, the IL bestowed Batter of the Week honors upon Almonte for leading the loop in hits (11) and RBIs (7) from April 29-May 5.

DOUBLE DOSE: David Adams doubled twice in the shutout setback, both times on first-pitch swings. The former University of Virginia Cavalier leads the team in on-base percentage (.402), slugging (.506), OPS (.909) and multi-hit games (7). Last night, he started at first base for the first time as a professional. It was his 374th game as a pro, with most of that time spent at second base before 2013.

NO RUNS FOR YOU: The RailRiders entered yesterday as one of the IL's three teams that had yet to lose in shutout style, along with Durham and Gwinnett. The Bulls joined the scoreless ranks last night as well with their shutout home loss to Syracuse. Coincidentally enough, that was also a 5-0 final. Last season, it did not take long for SWB to endure a blanking. It came on Opening Night at Lehigh Valley, 3-0. Game three of the campaign marked another donut, 4-0 at Syracuse. Those were two of the team's 10 shutout losses on the year.

TROUBLE AT HOME?: The RailRiders sit at 5-10 (.333) in home games with four straight losses while they have gone 12-2 (.857) on the road including wins in 12 of their last 13. The splits back-up the records. At home, the team is hitting .219/.328/.311 and averages 3.1 runs/game. On the road, the triple slashes rise to .283/.354/.433 and the team posts 5.0 runs/game. Also consider that four of the team's five doubleheaders have taken place on the road, making eight of the 14 road games seven-inning affairs, while the only extra-inning game came at home. Only three active players are hitting above .250 at home. Eight of the 15 that have seen road playing time are hitting .302 or better away from Moosic.

HERE'S THE PITCH: The home/road splits skew for the pitching staff as well. At home, the RailRiders' arms have assembled a 3.75 ERA with 13 home runs allowed over 132 innings. On the road, the ERA plummets to 2.42 with only four homers in 108 innings.

OFF THE RAILS: The RailRiders had their chances last night, but left 10 men on base and went 1-for-8 (.125) with men in scoring position...Felix Pie, who homered off of Chien-Ming Wang last night, is 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored on his career in the bigs against him...Wang has not received much help from his offense...In his four starts, the RailRiders have scored a total of nine runs (2.25/game)...Clay Rapada, who appeared in 70 games for the New York Yankees last season, joined the RailRiders' roster yesterday as Ryan Pope hit the DL retroactive to May 4...Rapada worked around a pair of baserunners in a scoreless eighth inning...Kelvin Perez also made his first appearance for SWB this season...He struck out four over two scoreless innings...A pair of number changes will be in effect tonight for the RailRiders...Ronnier Mustelier has switched to No. 10 while Rapada will now wear the same number he had when he was in the Bronx, No. 39.
