Kamloops, BC - The Kamloops Blazers have been awarded the WHL Marketing / Business Award for the 2012-13 WHL season. This is the first time the Blazers have won the award since the award's inception during the 1989-90 season.
The WHL Marketing / Business Award is based on criteria from the WHL including co-operation in League wide marketing and communication programs, efficiency in creating relationships with other teams, game night promotions, community involvement, improved attendance and media coverage from throughout the season.
The Blazers showed significant improvements in attendance up over 15% from the 2011-12 season including six sell-out crowds.
The connection the Kamloops Blazers have with the Kamloops and surrounding areas community continues to build. The hockey club performed 640 combined hours of community service which is up from 435 hours during the 2011-12 season and 2,600 tickets to community groups this season.
The group fundraiser program offered by the Blazers allowed local youth sports teams to raise in excess of $45,000 for their teams. In total, the hockey club has contributed $200,000 in contributions to local community groups and fundraisers this past season through a variety of programs.
