Red Deer Rebels News Release

This was the eighth and final meeting of the season between these two Central Division rivals.

FIRST PERIOD

The Rebels opened the scoring on Matt Bellerive's 15th goal of the season.  Conner Bleackley won a faceoff in the Ice zone, Devan Fafard's ensuing point shot was blocked but the rebound went right to Bellerive.  He beat Ice goalie Mackenzie Skapski 5:09 into the game... 1-0 Rebels.

"¨"¨Kootenay wasted little time in authoring their reply, a mere 23 seconds actually.  Sam Reinhart made a sly tip pass over to Jaedon Descheneau who beat Patrik Bartosak for his 23rd goal of the season.  Austin Vetterl also assisted on the 1-1 goal which came at the 5:32 mark."¨"¨"¨

SECOND PERIOD

"¨"¨Red Deer struck in the opening minute of the middle frame.  Mackenzie Skapski made a brilliant save on Rhyse Dieno's breakaway deke but the rebound quirted out for Brooks Maxwell.  He slid home his 10th goal of the season 29 seconds into the period for a 2-1 Rebels lead."¨"¨

But as was the case in the first period, the Ice responded shortly thereafter.  Levi Cable chased down a loose puck in the Rebels zone and blasted one past Bartosak for his 14th on the year.  Luke Philp and Vetterl with the assists... 2-2 game 2:23 into the period two."¨"¨

The Rebels took their third one-goal lead of the game when Tyson Ness found himself alone in the slot with the puck on his stick.  He rifled home his 14th of the year, from Rhyse Dieno, for a 3-2 Rebels lead at 7:35."¨"¨

Three times lucky for Kootenay as yet again the Ice came back to tie it.  Just six seconds into a powerplay, Joey Leach's point shot made it's way past Bartosak for his 6th goal of the campaign.  Assists to Jagger Dirk and Descheneau... 3-3 at 13:35."¨"¨

This time, the Rebels would offer up a quick response of their own as Mathew Dumba took a feed from Turner Elson and blasted home a one-timer for his 14th.  Rhyse Dieno also earned an assist, his third of the game, on the goal... 4-3 Rebels at 14:12."¨"¨

The Rebels bucked the trend by taking a two-goal lead when Tyson Ness got his stick on Brady Gaudet's shot, beating Skapski for his second goal of the game and 15th of the season.  Wyatt Johnson was also given an apple on the play... 5-3 Rebels at 17:53.

THIRD PERIOD"¨"¨

Wyatt Hoflin came on in relief of Skapksi between the pipes for the Ice and held the fort for the first half of the period.  But when Cody Thiel fired a rocket from a sharp angle Hoflin got a piece of it but not enough to keep it out.  Thiel's fourth of the year, assisted by Christian Stockl and Cory Millette, made it 6-3 Rebels at the 13:18 mark."¨"¨

Thiel later found himself sitting in the sin bin, banished for goaltender interference.  The Ice struck on the ensuing powerplay as Decsheneau used an incredible move to get around the Rebels defenders and beat Bartosak for his second goal of the game and 24th of the season.  Assists to Sam Reinhart and Leach... 6-4 Rebels at 17:58... the Rebels would hang on from there for a two goal win.
