Portland Winterhawks News Release
The Portland Winterhawks (52-12-1-2) picked up a 6-3 win over the visiting Everett Silvertips (23-38-2-4) Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in front of 6,157 fans.
The Hawks got off to a fast start, with Chase De Leo opening the scoring 7:27 into the first, followed by a goal from Seth Jones 1:22 later as Portland took a 2-0 lead midway through the first. Jones struck again with his second of the period with just 1.1 seconds remaining in the frame to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.
It remained 3-0 until the 18:46 mark of the second, when Everett's Landon Oslanski scored a power play goal to cut Portland's lead to 3-1 going into the third.
The Hawks went back up by three 2:12 into the third on a goal by Nic Petan to make it 4-1. The Silvertips responded when Oslanski scored his second power play goal of the game at the 4:31 mark of the third to cut Portland's lead to 4-2.
The Silvertips got within one when Ryan Harrison scored at the 12:53 to cut Portland's lead to 4-3. But just 21 seconds later Brendan Leipsic found Ty Rattie alone in front of the Everett net, and he reached around netminder Daniel Cotton and put it in to give the Hawks a 5-3 lead. Rattie added a late empty net goal to seal the 6-3 win.
Rattie's first goal got him to 100 points on the season, joining Leipsic and Petan in reaching the century mark. It's the first time since the 1988-89 season the Hawks have had three players with 100+ points each. In 88-89 Dennis Holland (167 points), Troy Mick (136) and Terry Black (104) accomplished the feat.
Mac Carruth earned the win in net for Portland with 31 saves on 34 Everett shots.
The Hawks are off until Sunday, when they travel to Victoria to take on the Royals at 5 p.m.
