
Royals Dropped by Blazers

Kamloops, BC - In a Tuesday night clash at Interior Savings Centre, the Victoria Royals squared off against the Kamloops Blazers in the final regular season meeting between the two teams. The Royals started Patrik Polivka in goal, while the Blazers responded with Cole Cheveldave.
The Blazers opened the scoring on JC Lipon's 35th goal of the season. Brendan Ranford's centering pass deflected to the high slot before Lipon corralled it and rifled a slap shot past Polivka at 15:24. Kale Kessy scored at the 19:33 mark to double Kamloops' lead. Sam Grist released a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle that deflected off Kessy in front and into the net. The Blazers held a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
With his second goal of the game, Kessy gave the Blazers a 3-0 lead at 9:28 of the middle frame. Kamloops added two more goals late in the period courtesy of Colin Smith at the15:12 mark and Grist at 18:54. The Blazers took a 5-0 lead into the second intermission.
Coleman Vollrath replaced Polivka in the Royals' goal to start the final period. Kamloops added to their lead early in the frame on a powerplay goal by Tim Bozon at 1:42. Victoria was unable to chip away at the Blazers' lead as the home team preserved the shutout. Kamloops 6 Victoria 0.
Victoria went 0/30.0% on the powerplay, while Kamloops was 1/911.1%. The Blazers outshot the Royals 33-12.
The Royals will visit the Kelowna Rockets tomorrow night with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Victoria will then return home on Friday, March 8th to host the Vancouver Giants. Puck drop for that game is set for 7:05 p.m.
